DAC8 and CARF compliance lawyers for crypto companies.
EU crypto tax reporting under DAC8 has applied since January 1, 2026, and the first DAC8 reports are due in 2027. Crypto Law Hub helps U.S. and international crypto platforms decide whether DAC8 and the OECD's Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) apply, register in the right country and build tax reporting into onboarding.
Admitted in New York, Texas and Georgia. Work in the EU and UK is coordinated with locally admitted counsel and tax advisers.
For crypto platforms with customers in the EU and beyond.
- Exchanges and brokers — U.S. crypto platforms with EU-resident or UK-resident customers.
- Wallet and custody providers — businesses that carry out exchange transactions or transfers for customers.
- Stablecoin issuers and payment companies — including questions about e-money tokens and large retail payments.
- Token projects and funds — deciding whether they are a reporting crypto-asset service provider at all.
- EU firms with U.S. operations — aligning DAC8 reporting with Form 1099-DA.
DAC8 and CARF compliance work, from the first question to the first report.

- Registration — choosing the member state and preparing the DAC8 registration with local advisers.
- Customer due diligence — self-certification forms, tax ID collection and the review of existing customers due by January 1, 2027.
- Customer notices and blocking — reminder sequences and the block process for customers who do not respond.
- Data mapping — matching your transaction data to the EU reporting format.
- MiCA coordination — whether your EU activity also needs MiCA authorization, and how the two regimes fit together.
- U.S. alignment — connecting the program to Form 1099-DA and preparing for U.S. CARF rules.
- Tax authority inquiries — responding when an authority asks about a missing registration or report.

DAC8 and CARF questions.
- Do I need a DAC8 lawyer or a tax adviser? Usually both. A lawyer decides whether the rules apply, where to register, how they interact with MiCA and what your customer terms must say. Tax advisers and reporting vendors handle data and filing. We coordinate the two.
- Does DAC8 apply if we have no office in the EU? It can. Crypto-asset operators outside MiCA that serve EU residents must register in one member state and report there. How member states will enforce that against a U.S. company is not settled, which makes an early scope analysis worth having.
- Which member state should we register in? It depends on your ties to the EU. Finland, for example, asks non-EU operators to register where they have the strongest territorial or geographic ties. We review your structure and customers before you choose.
- Do you handle the UK's CARF rules? Yes. We advise on whether the UK rules apply and coordinate with UK advisers on registration and filing.
